I recently ran across the sleeve notes of a four album set of records which had been brought out to celebrate the famous conductor of the Boston Pops, Arthur Fiedler. I thought that the comment he made about his son being the lead in a rock band is worthy of repetition. He quoted Rossini who once said that “all music is wonderful except the boring kind”. Like Fiedler I Like whatever is good and when asked what genre of music I like I simply say that I like all music from rock to baroque. When playing music in my home I can switch from Bach to the Beatles in a flash and switch back to baroque, jazz, folk, swing or whatever and think nothing of it. Many famous a composer has drawn on the folk music of his country for inspiration and one only has to listen to composers  like Brahms, Liszt or Smetena to confirm that so they also paid attention to contemporary “popular” music when they were composing.

I am of Dutch extraction having arrived in 1951 (thoroughly Australianised by now) and have spent most of my time since then in the Apple Isle having moved here about two years ago. My passion for collecting vinyl records begun not long after arrival in Australia and I have been collecting  for the past 55 years. This is still an ongoing process even though I am running out of room. Lately I have been  concentrating on the music of the 20th Century and in particular I am getting a soft spot for electronic music of the variety produced by Vengalis, Deuter, Jarre and Tomita.

I am semi retired, married with one daughter, three sons and two grandsons. My main hobby which I thoroughly enjoy is trawling through my collection and digging up and restoring long forgotten  performances by famous conductors, artists and orchestras. The opportunity afforded by Triple U to broadcast some of this material puts icing on the cake and  I’ll keep looking forward to bringing you well known and not so well known composers and performers in to the future.

I will be very happy to receive feedback and should anyone have a desire to hear a particular long forgotten recording I’ll be only too happy to oblige if possible and provided I possess a copy, to include it in a future program.
